In:Site 2017 – Day 5 Friday 8th September

The final day of In:Site 2017!

It’s been a fantastic week in Birmingham Cathedral Square and we braved it through all types of weather. For the last day we had three artists join us alongside Sarah and the team from Jaguar Land Rover.

Cat Arnason

Cat graduated from the University of Brighton with BA 3D Design and Craft. Cat invited visitors to try out spinning their own length of wool using a drop spindle. She asked them to share a message or memory and attach it to their length of yarn using balsa wood tags.

Lois Wiseman

Lois graduated with BA 9Hons) Jewellery Design and Related Products from School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University.

Lois brought prepared small enamelled copper tiles and then using a carborundum stone she took off the top surface. She invited passersby to draw, using a graphite pencil, onto the enamel tiles to create a tiled collection of drawings which will then be fired at a later date.

Danielle Laurent

Danielle also graduated from School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University, BA (Hons) Jewellery Design and Related Products.

Danielle was interested in the stories of the people buried in the Cathedral Square. Inspired by these stories and the circular motif on the Cathedral’s windows, Danielle invited the public to decorate a piece of card with images that represented them. These images were interlinked with the details of characters buried in the Square and displayed on the railings around the Square.

Take a look at Danielle’s own jewellery practice on her website.
